Reliable material characterization at low x-ray energy through the phase-attenuation duality

چکیده
We present a comparison of between two polychromatic x-ray imaging techniques used to characterize materials: dual energy (DE) attenuation and phase-attenuation (PA), the latter being implemented via scanning-based Edge Illumination system. The system-independent method extract electron density effective atomic number developed by Azevedo et al. IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci. 63, 341 (2016)—SIRZ—is employed for analysis planar images, with same methodology both approaches. show PA be more reliable at low spectra (40 kVp), where conventional DE breaks down due insufficient separation energies in measurements, produce results comparable “standard” high (120 therefore, offering valuable alternative applications use is impractical.

Dual energy CT-based characterization of x-ray attenuation properties of breast equivalent material plates
Breast density is more and more considered as an important risk factor for breast cancer and several quantitative breast density evaluation methods have been proposed. The reference material for simulation of the breast attenuation properties of glandular and adipose breast tissues is manufactured by a single provider. In order to characterize the attenuation properties of these materials, meas...
متن کاملRadiation attenuation properties of shields containing micro and Nano WO3 in diagnostic X-ray energy range
Background: It has recently been shown that the particle size of materials used for radiation shielding can affect the magnitude of radiation attenuation. Over the past years, application of nano-structured materials in radiation shielding has attracted attention world-wide. The purpose of this study was to investigate the shielding properties of the lead-free shields containing micro and nano-...

To minimize the pulse-to-pulse variation, the LCLS FEL must operate at saturation, i.e. 10 orders of magnitude brighter spectral brilliance than 3-generation light sources. At this intensity, ultra-high vacuums and windowless transport are required. Many of the experiments, however, will need to be conducted at a much lower intensity thereby requiring a reliable means to reduce the x-ray intens...
